Anushka Sharma made a memorable debut with Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. Playing a sweet and simple girl-next-door, she quickly caught everyone’s attention. But in her second film ‘Badmaash Company’, released in 2010, she took a bold step forward with a stylish makeover and a sizzling chemistry with Shahid Kapoor.
The film’s youthful story and energy
Directed by Parmeet Sethi, ‘Badmaash Company’ follows the story of four close friends who start a business together in 1990s Mumbai. The film had a fresh and energetic vibe, with Anushka playing the role of Bulbul. Her gang included Shahid Kapoor, Vir Das and Meiyang Chang. She not only wore trendy outfits but also shared an intimate kissing scene with Shahid, something that drew a lot of attention at the time.
Anushka’s explanation for the kissing scene
In a 2010 interview with IANS, Anushka spoke openly about the kissing scene. She said, “I don’t see it as a kissing scene. It’s a part of the screenplay. I think cinema is changing and we are not doing (kissing) for the heck of it. We do not need to do this (kiss on screen) to attract attention.” Anushka made it clear that it wasn’t about adding glamour or shock value. The scene made sense in the context of the love shared between her character Bulbul and Shahid’s character Karan.
The scene’s emotional depth highlighted
Speaking more about the emotional connection, she added, “When you see the film, the kind of chemistry Bulbul (her character in the film) and Karan (Shahid) share, the kind of love that’s there between them, you will be able to understand that the scene was justified.”
Anushka Sharma’s career after ‘Badmaash Company’
After ‘Badmaash Company’, Sharma starred in several successful films. She impressed in ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, and then appeared in films like ‘Patiala House’, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, ‘PK’, ‘Sultan’ and ‘Sui Dhaaga’.
