
Renowned makeup artist Vikraman Nair, who is fondly known as Mani, has passed away at the age of 81 due to age related issues.Vikraman Nair began his artistic journey at Maryland Studio with the film ‘Swami Ayyappan,’ which was directed by P. Subramaniam and released in 1975.
Over 150 films and legendary collaborations
As reported by Asianet News, Mani has been part of over 150 films across Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil. He has worked in several superhit Mohanlal films such as ‘Chithram,’ ‘Kilukkam,’ ‘Thenmavin Kombath,’ ‘Kalapani,’ ‘Chandralekha,’ ‘Vandanam,’ and ‘Thalavattam.’ He has also worked in Priyadarshan’s superhit Hindi film ‘Hera Pheri,’ which was a Hindi remake of the iconic ‘Ramji Rao Speaking,’ which was released in the year 1989.Over the years, Mani became the trusted makeup artist for iconic filmmakers such as Priyadarshan, Venu Nagavalli, and Sreekumaran Thampi.‘Lal Salam,’ ‘Virasat,’ and the Mammootty starrer ‘Megham’ are some of his other notable works. The majority of his collaborations were with the veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan, and all of them were superhits.He also gave actresses Sridevi and Jyothika their very first on-screen makeup in ‘Kumarasambhavam.’ The movie was released in the year 1969 and was directed by P. Subramaniam, with the story penned by Kalidasa.
From Miss World to television
In 1995, Mani worked as a makeup artist at the Miss World pageant in Bangalore. His creative touch also extended to television, with hit serials like ‘Swami Ayyappan’ and the iconic ‘Kadamattathu Kathanar.’
