The much awaited Yash starrer ‘Toxic’ is gearing up for release on March 19, and the makers have now launched the first teaser. While Yash’s new avatar as Raya in the teaser has left fans and cinephiles alike spellbound, director Geethu Mohandas has opened up about casting Nayanthara as one of the crucial characters in the film.
Nayanthara plays Ganga in Toxic
Lady Superstar Nayanthara has roped in to play Ganga, a pivotal character in ‘Toxic’. Her character poster was launched on New Year’s Eve. The poster brought a sense of impending danger, with Nayanthara holding a shotgun, and the femme fatale warrior avatar blew the internet. In a post shared on Instagram on January 7, ‘Toxic’ director Geetu Mohandas opened up about roping in Nayanthara, one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema. The director revealed that ‘Toxic’ will showcase a different side of Nayanthara’s talent. “We all know Nayan as a celebrated star with a commanding screen presence, and a remarkable career spanning two decades, but in TOXIC, audiences will witness a talent that has been quietly waiting to explode,” Geetu Mohandas said.
How Nayanthara’s personality echoed the character’s soul
The filmmaker spoke about how she wanted to portray Nayanthara in “a way that she’s never been showcased before.”However, the superstar left Geetu Mohandas in awe by effortlessly bringing her personality and charisma to the character. “But as the shoot progressed, I began to see how closely her own personality echoed the soul of the character. It wasn’t imitation, it was alignment.”Mohandas further added, “The depth, the honesty, the restraint, and the emotional clarity she brought were not performances layered on top of the character; they were qualities she already possessed. I found my Ganga, so brilliantly performed by her, and even more unexpectedly, I found a dear friend. I love you, Nayan.”Meanwhile, ‘Toxic’ also has actors Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles. The film is set to lock horns with the Aditya Dhar directed, Ranveer Singh led ‘Dhurandhar’ Part 2 on March 19,2026.
