White bread, white rice, pasta produced from refined flour and various pastries, along with baked goods, contain refined carbohydrates. The absence of fiber and essential nutrients in these foods, triggers the body to generate additional fat which accumulates within the liver. The rapid increase in blood sugar levels due to refined carbohydrates leads to hunger pangs that may result in eating more food, which creates conditions for fatty liver disease. Substituting refined carbohydrates with whole grains such as brown rice, oats and whole wheat bread, helps stabilise blood sugar and benefits liver function.
