MUMBAI: Even though he has retired from T20Is, former India captain Rohit Sharma wants to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a domestic T20 tournament, TOI has learnt.Currently playing for India in the ongoing three match ODI series against South Africa, the 38-year-old could play for Mumbai in the knockouts, which will be held in Indore from Dec 12-18.
The ODI series ends on Saturday. Having won all their four matches so far in the league stage of the tournament in Lucknow, and topping Elite Group A with 16 points in the bag, Mumbai are primed to enter the knockouts. “Rohit has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of SMAT,” a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association said. Earlier this year, the BCCI made it compulsory for all India players to feature in domestic cricket when not on national duty or not recuperating from injury.
