Paul pointed out that the team needed a strong defense and that such a trade would allow for achieving the team’s long-term goals. His comments drew a lot of attention because Reaves is one of the most popular players in the Lakers franchise and has been delivering some exceptional performances of his career lately. Despite performing well, a recent calf injury has put Austin Reaves out of games. The situation, however, became more intense when Reaves’ own agent reportedly spoke to Paul following the Lakers’ win on Tuesday, showing how frustrated the team was about the matter being made public. When asked about the controversy, LeBron James quickly distanced himself, saying, “AR knows how I feel about him. I hope AR or his camp don’t look at me and think this is words from me are coming through Rich”. He emphasized that Rich Paul speaks for himself. However, not everyone accepted that explanation. Veteran analyst Skip Bayless questioned James’ response, “He clearly had conspired with Rich Paul about this. Le-Cron James is trying to push Austin Reaves out of the back door.
