Reliving the magic of the 1970s with the uncut and remastered 4K version of the film, ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’ is all ready to take over the theatres for its 50th Anniversary on December 12, 2025. After the poignant loss of significant actors from the film, including Dharmendra and Asrani, the cult classic’s final cut will be unveiled worldwide soon.
About ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’
The fresh cut possesses the tagline of ‘The Greatest Story Never Told,’ as the audience did not watch the complete end. The trailer of the film, with restored clips and audio files, was released recently, showcasing the change from the original. “This version contains the film’s original ending as well as the original soundtrack composed by R.D. Burman. I can’t wait for audiences to experience it on the big screen for the first time,” Shezaad Sippy said, according to Variety. After the three-year collaboration, the new version will follow the ending that was originally written. In June, the final cut premiered at Italy’s Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival, where the audience saw Gabbar Singh killed by Thakur instead of getting arrested by the police. The change was demanded by India’s Central Board of Film Certification in 1975 during the Emergency period.
About ‘Sholay’
Directed by Ramesh Sippy and written by Salim-Javed, the film revolves around the best friends Jai and Veeru. After being encouraged by Thakur, the duo sets themselves on a mission to arrest the notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh. With Basanti’s exuberant attitude, the film instantly became a fan favourite for its never-before-seen brilliance. Starring Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead, the other cast members included Amjad Khan, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Jaya Bachchan, Asrani, and Mac Mohan, along with a stunning appearance by Helen.
