During the shoot of Pardes in 1997, Shah Rukh Khan rushed back to India after learning about his wife Gauri’s pregnancy complications. Remarkably, he still managed to film the iconic song Yeh Dil Deewana on his way to the airport—a moment that became a memorable chapter in his career.
BTS details
The director of Ram Lakhan, Subhash Ghai, shared details about the shooting of the song in an interview with Bollywood Hungama. He explained that the song was scheduled to be filmed last, with only two days remaining. Shah Rukh Khan had been cooperative throughout the shoot but had to leave early near the end due to his wife Gauri’s pregnancy. Shah Rukh informed the team that he needed to return to Delhi and couldn’t extend his schedule by a few more days.
Close-ups and body double
The filmmaker revealed that he completed all of Shah Rukh Khan’s close-up shots for the song within just two hours. To manage the tight schedule, he asked Shah Rukh to come early in the morning and filmed only three close-ups. The rest of the scenes, including long shots of the car across various locations, were shot using a body double. This approach allowed the entire song to be picturized efficiently in a short span of time.
Pardes release
Pardes was released in August 1997, just a few months before Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan welcomed their first son, Aryan Khan, in November that year. The song Yeh Dil Deewana quickly became a chartbuster and marked the beginning of Sonu Nigam’s long association with Shah Rukh. Since then, Sonu has lent his voice to many iconic Shah Rukh tracks, including Kal Ho Naa Ho, Suraj Hua Maddham, Do Pal, Main Agar Kahoon, Main Hoon Na, Satrangi Re, and Aaj Ki Raat, among others.
