Post Kantara, Rishabh Shetty is back in the big screen to bring back the same love and adulation for the prequel. When the first part was released in 2022, not much was expected from the film. It was made on a budget of Rs 16 crore but it went on to make more than Rs 310 crore at the box office, of the total collection the film collected nearly Rs 80 crore from Hindi version despite releasing two weeks after its Kannada release. The film which is just 2 days away from its big screen release is getting a not so encouraging response from the audience. Till 12 PM the film has grossed just Rs 6.56 crores from the sale of 1.97 lakh tickets across the country and if one adds the block booking details the film has earned about Rs 10.90 crore.
In comparison to the first part Kantara: Chapter 1 has gone way beyond the day 1 collection of Kantara which had collected just Rs 1.95 crore. In fact with the present numbers the sequel has earned more than the first weekend collection of Kantara, but the journey ahead for the film is not going to be simple. The first part was made on a budget of just Rs 16 crore while the second part has mounted on more than Rs 100 crore budget- just it’s climax was shot for over 28 days.

Will you be watching ‘Kantara: Chapter 2’ in theaters?
Sequels have usually generated more buzz than the first part be it Bahabuli or Pushpa or KGF but in Kantara’s case the buzz is not being felt be it India or North America. In the United States of America where the breakeven of the film has been pegged at USD 9 million has just sold tickets worth nearly USD 260,000. This leaves a lot of heavy lifting to be done on the film post it’s release and the trend with films from Southern part of India has been that the majorly earn from premieres and first weekend. But with Kantara, the film gained in India at least in the second weekend where it’s first week collection was Rs 30.3 crore while second week collection was Rs 42.3 crore and week 3 collection was Rs 67.8 crore. The collection for the film began to dip only in the 4th week where it collected Rs 59.15 crore. One would hope that history repeats itself with the Kantara: Chapter 1 as well. Also the film is clashing with Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also releasing on 2nd October.
