
Aamir Khan has been a pioneer at the ticket window with his films kickstarting Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 300 crore clubs in Bollywood. The first film to enter the Rs 100 crore club was 2008 superhit film Ghajini directed by AR Murgadoss and also featuring Asin and Jiah Khan. The film’s total lifetime collection stood at Rs 114 crore. And now Rishab Shetty’s Kantara : A Legend Chapter 1 has gone past Ghajini’s lifetime collection in just 9 days as its Hindi collection stands at Rs 115.75 crore. Kantara 2 is a sequel to 2022 blockbuster film Kantara which had gone on to mint nearly Rs 310 crore at the box office. Of the total collection- Hindi version had contributed about Rs 84 crore despite the film releasing in Hindi two weeks after its release in the South market. But for Kantara 2 the makers decided to release the film in all markets on the same day-date. The film on its first day in Hindi earned Rs 18.5 crore, day 2 was at Rs 12.5 crore, day 3 Rs 19.5 crore and day ( Sunday ) was Rs 23 crore. On Monday ( day 5) collection was Rs 8.75 crore and on day 6 it was Rs 11.25 crore , on day 7 the collection dipped to Rs 8.25 crore and day 8 was at Rs 7 crore. On Day 9 ( 2nd Friday ) the film added another Rs 7 crore to it’s kitty, thereby taking the overall Hindi collection of the film to Rs 115.75 crore-nudging past Ghajini’s lifetime collection. In the list of highest grossing films of Hindi cinema, Kantara 2 now stands at 105 position and with the 2nd weekend kicking in- the film is expected gain at least 10 more spots by Sunday night.
