The ‘Parasakthi’ director Sudha Kongara has finally spoken in detail about the controversy linked to the film’s release. SK’s film was first planned to hit screens on January 9. Later the makers pushed it to January 10 after facing heavy backlash on social media. Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ was supposed to release. But the film ran into trouble with the Censor Board and did not get cleared. After ‘Parasakthi’ released, Sudha had earlier claimed that hate was being spread against her film online. Without taking names she said goons of an actor whose film could not release were attacking Parasakthi on cyber space.
Sudha Kongara says she is a Vijay fan
Sudha Kongara has now spoken openly about her admiration towards Vijay. In an interview with India Today she made it very clear that she is a huge fan of the actor. The director said, “I love Vijay. I am probably his biggest fan and there is no doubt about it. Even Vijay knows it. I have met him and told him the same.”The ‘Parasakthi’ director also said that she never had any plan to compete with him. She explained how much she respects him as a star. Sudha shared that she always wanted to work with Vijay but things did not happen for different reasons.
No competition, only respect
Sudha strongly dismissed any idea of rivalry. She explained that competing with Vijay is not even a thought for her. She said, “I had always wanted to make a film with him but it didn’t materialise due to various reasons. I usually watch my own films at least 2,000 times but Vijay is the only actor whose films I watch on the very first show of the first day. I have been eagerly waiting for the release of Jana Nayagan.”Sudha added that the timing of the releases was only because ‘Parasakthi’ needed a festival window. She said, “Our film and Vijay’s film were scheduled to release around the same time and we only wanted a Pongal release for our movie.”Sudha also spoke about the censor issue and said, “The Censor Board refused to issue a certificate just two days before the planned release. This is something no film should have to face.”
‘Jana Nayagan’ issue and ‘Parasakthi’ box office
Sudha called the ‘Jana Nayagan’ situation very unfortunate. She said, “What happened to Jana Nayagan just two days before its release, with the censor holding it back is something that should not happen to any film, let alone his film.”She once again stressed that there was no rivalry. She said, “It was never our intention to compete with that film. How do you compete with the biggest star in the country? You don’t. That film releases, our film releases. We needed a festival date and that’s all.” She ended by saying, “I still have immense love for him.”‘Parasakthi’ is holding steady at the box office. The film has completed 10 days and has earned around Rs 49.45 crore India net. On Day 10, it collected Rs 80 lakhs as per early estimates by the Sacnilk website. The first week brought in Rs 36.25 crore. Day 7 saw Rs 5 crore. Day 8 earned Rs 4.85 crore. Day 9 dropped to Rs 2.65 crore. Day 10 slowed down, which is normal for a weekday. Even with this drop, Parasakthi is now very close to the Rs 50 crore mark.
