The National Medical Commission (NMC) has once again revised the NEET UG 2025 seat matrix, significantly increasing the number of MBBS seats for the upcoming academic year. A total of 9,075 new seats have been added, while 456 seats have been removed due to pending court cases. This brings the total number of MBBS seats in India to 1,26,600 for 2025–26 academic session. The revision affects multiple states and institutions, including new approvals for medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh and other regions. Candidates preparing for counselling must carefully check the updated matrix and follow the revised schedule announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
New MBBS seats across states
The NMC has approved 9,075 additional MBBS seats in various states. In Andhra Pradesh, Santhiram Medical College in Nandyal has increased its intake from 150 to 250 seats. Anna Gowri Medical College and Hospital has received approval to start with 150 new seats. Other states, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, have also seen incremental increases in MBBS intake. The expansion is aimed at addressing the growing demand for medical professionals nationwide.
Seats removed due to court cases
Alongside the additions, 456 seats have been removed from the matrix due to ongoing legal disputes. Notably, Delhi’s Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research had 150 seats removed. Such revisions reflect the NMC’s compliance with court directives and regulatory guidelines, ensuring only legally sanctioned seats are included in the counselling process.
State-wise MBBS admission trends
The revisions show a trend of increased seats in newer or recently upgraded medical colleges, especially in southern and western India. States like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra are leading the expansion and enhancement of medical infrastructure.
