PATNA: The ruling NDA on Friday stepped up its attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and other family members after a Delhi court framed charges against them in the railways land-for-jobs case. The BJP and JD(U) said the charges against Lalu and his family members, along with the reported court observations, were serious in nature. The court has framed charges against Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, and their children Tej Pratap, Tejashwi, Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, among 41 accused in the case. While the RJD alleged that the case was part of a conspiracy by the Centre to harass opposition leaders, the BJP and JD(U) cited the reported court observations and claimed that Lalu and his family were running a “criminal enterprise”.Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi said the court had established that the case was not a political allegation but was based on concrete evidence. “The court has said that Lalu and his family were operating like a criminal enterprise. These people committed many scams in Bihar. Bihar suffered great disrepute because of the Lalu family. RJD has no right to talk about morality,” he said.JD(U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said the court’s observation that the Lalu family was running a criminal political syndicate was shameful. “Lalu should resign from the post of RJD national president. Property was acquired in the name of Tejashwi alias Tarun. Land was also taken from his uncle, Mangru Rai. This list is long. Tejashwi should also resign and set an example,” he said.RJD spokesman Chitranjan Gagan, however, said it was part of a routine legal process and the CBI’s allegations were baseless. “We will get justice after the court hearing in the case. The central govt is harassing the opposition by misusing the central agencies and this case is a part of such conspiracy,” he said.JD(U) MLA and former close aide of Lalu, Shyam Rajak, said he regretted working with the RJD chief for so many years. He advised Lalu to withdraw completely from politics on moral grounds and relinquish all his positions, saying he was now facing the consequences of his actions.Rajak also said Tejashwi should be prepared to voluntarily accept punishment and admit his mistakes before the public.
