LUDHIANA: In another shocking incident coming in the wake of the discovery of a charred body, a 30-year-old resident of Bhora village was found murdered, his body cut into six pieces, inside a vacant plot near Jalandhar Bypass. The site of the gruesome discovery is barely three kilometres away from his house. His head was found stuffed in a white coloured drum while his limbs were scattered in the nearby vacant area. Police filed a case against his friend and the latter’s wife on charges of murder, as footage of a CCTV camera installed near their house showed them carrying the white drum on their bike.
The victim, Davinder of Bhora village, was involved in digital printing work in Mumbai. He came to Ludhiana at around 2:15pm on January 6 for purchase of digital printing machines. He left the house saying that he was going to meet a friend and would return in some time but he did not return. When the family members’ attempts to find him failed, they filed a missing complaint with Salem Tabri police. The morbid crime was discovered on Thursday morning, when some rag pickers noticed a drum. One of the rag pickers wanted to keep the drum and opened it to find a dismembered head inside. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-I) Sameer Verma said, “The man’s head was stuffed in a white colour drum, while five other body parts, both arms, legs and parts of the abdomen, were scattered separately at a distance of 500 metres from the drum. There were some burn marks on the limbs, which indicates that the accused may have tried to burn the body; however, the burn injuries were not deep.”He added that as per the police probe, Davinder went to his friend Shamsher Singh Shera’s house in the same locality. “Footage of CCTV camera installed near Shera’s house captured him and his wife taking the drum in which the head was found, on their bike. A murder case was registered against Shamsher Singh Shera and his wife Kuldeep Kaur. The motive behind the murder would be ascertained after the arrest of the accused,” said the ADCP.Davinder is survived by his wife and 7-month-old daughter. Accused had an alibi –Davinder’s cousin, Hemraj, told TOI, “We knew that Davinder would have gone to meet Shera as he was a close friend. In fact, we called Shera to ask about Davinder’s whereabouts. Shera said Davinder came to his house to borrow his bike, but he refused to give it to him. Shera said Davinder stayed for a few minutes and left. Initially, we believed Shera but later, we thought about cross-checking. When we went to their house, we found it locked.“—He added, “We checked footage of the CCTV cameras installed near Shera’s house, which showed that Davinder entered Shera’s house at around 2:45pm and never came out. In fact, by midnight, Shera and his wife were seen carrying a white drum and returned empty-handed after a few minutes. After that too, they made two to three rounds on the bike.”—On the possible murder motive, Hemraj said, “Shera, who is a carpenter, is also involved in drug peddling. Davinder would also consume drugs once in a while. There is a possibility that they had some issue over drugs or money. The rest will be confirmed by the police after the arrest of the accused.”Victims of violenceJan 6 2026, a burnt body, chopped into two parts, was found in an open field area of Khwajke village in Meharban area.
