BHUBANESWAR: Music composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar passed away at the age of 54 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar for a neurological disorder, pneumonia, and other health conditions. He was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in a comatose state on September 4 last year.According to an official bulletin issued by AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Majumdar had multiple comorbid conditions, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, chronic liver disease due to Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine: progressive disease), bilateral pneumonia (HAP), bloodstream infection (MDRO-Acinetobacter), chronic liver disease, dyselectrolytaemia (hypokalaemia, hypophosphataemia, hypomagnesaemia), and nutritional deficiency (vitamin D, folic acid).After prolonged treatment in the Medical ICU, he was shifted back to the medicine ward (E6 – Isolation Room) on November 10 for continuity of his care. “He was conscious and followed simple commands on a tracheostomy tube with stable vitals and was planned for discharge. However, he could not be discharged due to family/personal reasons,” said the official sources.He developed new-onset fever (infection) on January 23, which was managed as per standard protocol, but he did not respond to treatment and developed refractory septic shock.He developed cardiac arrest at 7:43 am on Sunday, and CPR was started as per ACLS protocol. However, despite all resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived, and he was clinically declared dead at 9:02 am, said the hospital bulletin.Majumdar, who composed music for numerous blockbuster Odia films, enjoyed a massive fan following across the state. People expressed condolences to the family members of Majumdar after hearing the news of the singer’s demise.
