Ayush Mhatre is a rising 17-year-old cricketer from Virar, Mumbai, all set to join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad in IPL 2025. A right-handed opening batter, Ayush is known for his elegant stroke play and idolizes Indian skipper Rohit Sharma—mirroring many of his hero’s trademark shots.
Born on July 16, 2007, Mhatre has already made waves in domestic cricket. He debuted in the 2024–25 Irani Cup and has since scored 321 runs in five First-Class matches, including a knock of 176 in the Ranji Trophy. In List A cricket, he boasts an average of 65.42, with two centuries and a record-breaking top score of 181—making him the youngest to score 150+ in a men’s List A match, overtaking Yashasvi Jaiswal.
His journey hasn’t been easy. Ayush used to travel 46 kilometers daily from Virar to Mumbai for practice, often with his grandfather. His talent and determination caught CSK’s eye during trials, impressing none other than MS Dhoni himself.
Now, with a golden opportunity at CSK, Ayush Mhatre is ready to step into the spotlight and take the next big leap in his cricketing journey.
