On the occasion of Lord Mahakal’s royal procession in Ujjain on Monday, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav extended his greetings to the people of the nation and the state. He prayed to Lord Mahakal for the well-being and prosperous life of all citizens of Madhya Pradesh.

Yadav said that across the country, processions of Lord Mahadev are taken out during the month of Shravan from full moon to full moon. However, in Ujjain, in keeping with both northern and southern traditions, the processions of Baba Mahakal also continue on the two Mondays of Bhadrapada. Today, Lord Mahakal, in his majestic royal form, undertook the concluding procession of the season, toured the city, and blessed his devotees with divine darshan.

The Chief Minister added that the state government made elaborate arrangements for the grand procession and welcomed it with great enthusiasm. Flowers were showered from a helicopter along the procession route. This year, Lord Mahakal will once again bless devotees with a procession on the occasion of Vijayadashami. The Chief Minister prayed that Lord Mahakal’s divine grace always remain upon the people of the state, ensuring their welfare and removing their sorrows.On Monday, August 18, at 4 pm, the royal procession was taken out with great pomp and devotion. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav performed worship of Lord Chandramouleshwara at the Sabha Mandap. As Lord Chandramouleshwara, seated in the Silver Palaki, came out to meet his devotees, the entire city of Ujjain resonated with chants of “Har Har Mahadev.” Devotees, overwhelmed by emotion, had darshan of the three-eyed Lord Shiva and felt spiritually uplifted.
Before the start of the procession, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav and Minister-in-Charge Shri Gautam Tetwal performed worship of Lord Chandramouleshwara in the Sabha Mandap, along with MLAs Shri Anil Jain Kaluheda, Shri Satish Malviya, Shri Mahesh Parmar, Mayor Shri Mukesh Tatwal, and Chairperson Smt. Kalavati Yadav. Priests led by Pt. Ghanshyam Sharma conducted the rituals.
As the silver palanquin reached the main gate, flower petals were showered from a helicopter. The procession was saluted by armed police contingents and mounted guards, followed by platoons of state battalions.
The Chief Minister himself joined the procession, playing the damru and cymbals to welcome Lord Chandramouleshwara. Thousands of devotees, too, played damrus and manjiras, chanting praises of Lord Mahakal throughout the route.

Darshan in Six Roops
In this royal procession, Lord Mahakal appeared before devotees in six different forms: Shri Chandramouleshwara in the silver palanquin, Shri Manmahesh on the elephant, Shri Shiv Tandav on the Garuda chariot, Shri Uma-Mahesh on the Nandi chariot, the Holkar State Mukharavind on the Dol chariot and Shri Saptadhan Mukharavind in the ‘Six Roops’.
The procession passed along traditional routes to reach Ramghat, where Lord Mahakal was ceremonially worshipped with holy water from the Kshipra River.
Participation and Cultural Splendor
Seventy devotional groups from Ujjain and across Madhya Pradesh participated in the grand procession, singing hymns and kirtans. Police bands, salute guards, temple priests, saints and distinguished citizens also accompanied the procession. Devotees were also provided darshan through mobile chariots fitted with LED screens, with live telecast across Ujjain.
Adding cultural vibrancy, tribal and folk dance troupes performed along the route. Teams presented Dholia tribal dance from Anuppur, Shringari folk dance from Bhubaneswar, Danda dance from Harda, and Karma dance from Balaghat, under the coordination of the Department of Culture and Tribal Folk Art Academy.
For safety and public service, vehicles from the electricity board, fire brigade, forest department, and ambulances accompanied the procession.
Devotees Witnessed Lord Mahakaleshwar’s Procession through Mobile Chariots
For the convenience of devotees, mobile chariots were arranged to provide smooth darshan of Lord Mahakaleshwar’s royal procession. Large LED screens were installed on both sides of the chariots, displaying a live telecast of the procession, enabling devotees to have an easy and clear view of the Lord. In addition, the live telecast of the procession was also broadcast at other locations in Ujjain, including Freeganj, Nanakheda, and Datt Akhada.
Tribal and Folk Dance Presentations Added Splendor
In accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to make Lord Mahakaleshwar’s royal procession grand and culturally vibrant, tribal and folk artist groups actively participated. Under the leadership of Shri Lamoolal Dhurve from Anuppur, the Dholia tribal Gudumbaja dance was performed. From Bhubaneswar, Shri Abhijeet Das led the Shringari folk dance. Shri Sumit Sharma and his troupe from Harda presented the Dandav folk dance. Under the leadership of Shri Sadhuram Dhurve from Balaghat, the Baiga tribal Karma dance was performed. These cultural troupes accompanied the entire procession, performing along the route and enriching the divine atmosphere. All participating groups were coordinated through the Department of Culture, Bhopal, the Tribal Folk Art and Dialect Development Academy, Madhya Pradesh Culture Council, and the Triveni Museum of Art and Archaeology.
Safety and Security Arrangements
To ensure safety during the procession, vehicles of the Electricity Board, Fire Brigade, Forest Department, as well as ambulances, moved along with the procession throughout the route.
CM Joined Bhandara
After the procession, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav participated in a community feast (Bhandara) organised under the Harifatak bridge for devotees who had come from different parts of the country. He personally served food to the devotees.
