
Kantara Chapter 1, the second-highest-grossing Kannada film ever, continues to perform strongly at the box office a week after its release. Directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, the epic period action film has earned over Rs 300 crore in its first week in India.
Kantara Chapter 1 crosses Rs 300 crore in first week
As per Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 earned an estimated Rs 25 crore net in India on Wednesday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 316 crore. The film opened with Rs 61.45 crore on Thursday, followed by Rs 45.4 crore on Friday. Over the weekend, it collected Rs 55 crore on Saturday and Rs 63 crore on Sunday.The film had an overall occupancy of 55.73 percent in Kannada, 23.83 percent in Telugu, 16.41 percent in Hindi, 35.00 percent in Tamil, and 28.60 percent in Malayalam on Wednesday, October 08, 2025.Although the collections dropped slightly during the weekdays, Kantara Chapter 1 remained strong, earning Rs 31.5 crore on Monday and Rs 34.25 crore on Tuesday. Since the 2022 film Kantara made Rs 407.82 crore worldwide in its lifetime, it will be interesting to see how much Kantara Chapter 1 ultimately earns.

Rishab Shetty on box office success
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Rishab Shetty talked about the box office success of Kantara Chapter 1. According to PTI, he said, “We began the world of Kantara from the first film, and since then, we have explored the dynamic between nature and humans. This story is rooted in our folklore from coastal Karnataka, and we want to talk about the tribes, the folklore, and deity worship in our film.”He added, “Since then, I have had a thought that regional can also be universal. This time with this success, that point has once again been proven that our film is being accepted globally.”
About the film
Kantara is written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role of a tribal man named Berme. The film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films.
