Jana Nayagan is a Tamil political action film starring Thalapathy Vijay. It is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and others. This movie is very special because it is Vijay’s last film before he enters politics full time with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. From the start, fans were very excited. The film was first planned for October 2025. Later, it was shifted to January 9, 2026, for Pongal. Everything looked set. But then problems started with the censor process. Because of this, the release got stuck, and the makers faced big losses.
December to early January: CBFC process begins
On December 18, 2025, the makers submitted Jana Nayagan to the CBFC for certification. On December 22, the examining committee watched the film. As per the makers, the committee suggested some cuts and said a U/A 16+ certificate could be given after changes. The team agreed and made the edits. The film was sent back to the CBFC. But days passed and the certificate did not come. In early January 2026, the CBFC suddenly referred the film to a revising committee. This was said to be because of an anonymous complaint. The complaint claimed the film hurt religious feelings and showed the armed forces in a wrong way. This move shocked the makers because the release date was very close.
January 6 to January 9: Court relief and sudden stay
On January 6, 2026, KVN Productions went to the Madras High Court. They said the delay was unfair and would cause heavy losses. On January 7, the court heard the case. The release was already in danger. By evening, the makers announced that the January 9 release was postponed. They said, “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update… The release date of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”On the morning of January 9, Justice P.T. Asha gave relief. She ordered the CBFC to give a U/A 16+ certificate. She said, “After examining materials, it is crystal clear that the complainant’s grievance appears to be an afterthought.” She also warned about a “dangerous trend.” Fans were happy, but only for a short time. Later that same day, a division bench stayed this order after the CBFC appealed.
The Supreme Court steps in and sends the case back
After the stay, the producers approached the Supreme Court on January 12. They wanted the stay removed. On January 15, the Supreme Court refused to interfere. The judges said the Madras High Court division bench should decide the case. They also said the matter should be decided quickly. The date fixed was January 20. This made that day very important for the film and its future.
January 20: Waiting for final clarity
On January 20, the Madras High Court division bench led by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan listed the Jana Nayagan case as Item 17. Many other cases were heard before it. There were delays because earlier items took time. Arguments finally began, but no final verdict came immediately. As of now, the release date is still unclear. Fans are waiting. Makers are hoping. Jana Nayagan remains stuck between court orders and censor rules, with everyone hoping for a clear decision soon.See More: Jana Nayagan Movie Release Date Hearing Live Update: Item 3 to item 17 wait; Vijay fans follow every move
