
Ensure the Round-the-Year Maintenance for Uninterrupted Power Supply
CM Dr. Yadav Reviews Energy Department’s Performance
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that electricity is a basic necessity for all, and ensuring its availability to everyone is a top priority of the government. He emphasized that electricity should be available at affordable rates, and highlighted the smart meter model as the best solution. He directed that smart meters be installed in every household, enabling consumers to get electricity at 20% lower rates.
CM Dr. Yadav was addressing review meeting of the Energy Department at Samatva Bhawan, Chief Minister’s Residence, on Wednesday. He noted that smart meters help consumers assess their own consumption and manage usage accordingly to reduce their bills. He instructed officials to accelerate the pace of smart meter installations. So far, over 21 lakh smart meters have been installed out of a total target of 1.34 crore.
CM Dr. Yadav discussed the recent power disruptions in May–June and instructed the department to run maintenance activities throughout the year to avoid outages due to storms, rain, or other incidents. He suggested new approaches, procurement of advanced equipment, coating of electric wires running under dense trees, reducing power/line losses, and strict implementation of energy-saving measures.
Promote Solar Energy for Households and Industries
The Chief Minister emphacised that with rising domestic and industrial power demand, both sectors should be encouraged to adopt solar energy. Consumers can even sell excess power generated. He added that agricultural electricity use should also shift to solar-powered pumps. He directed the department to formulate a policy for establishing transformer repair units in all needy districts and asked both Energy and Renewable Energy Departments to work together to maximize benefits for electricity consumers.
Make Power Distribution Companies Profitable in Two Years
CM Dr. Yadav set a target for all three power distribution companies to become profitable within two years, asking them to expand revenue streams, adopt new technologies, and innovate to benefit both the companies and the consumers.
Ensure Power Availability for Rabi Season
CM Yadav directed officials to start preparations early for Rabi 2025–26, ensuring enough electricity to meet the estimated demand of 20,200 MW, compared to 18,913 MW last year.
One-Time Settlement Scheme
Energy Minister Shri Pradhuman Singh Tomar announced a One-Time Settlement Scheme for consumers with outstanding electricity dues. The scheme, valid for six months, will offer relief on surcharges for domestic, industrial, and commercial users. Post deadline, defaulters’ connections will be disconnected. He also discussed restructuring of power distribution companies and thanked the CM for approving key proposals.
ACS (Energy) Shri Neeraj Mandloi informed that Madhya Pradesh ranks nationwide first, achieving 97.92% collection efficiency. The department has set performance goals for the current and coming financial years, aiming by 2026–27 to reduce tariffs, achieve 90% billing efficiency, 99% collection efficiency and reduce AT&C losses to 14%.
Cent percent Electrification Under PM Janman Campaign
Under the PM Janman Abhiyan, the department has taken up the target to electrify all 29,290 households of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), with 21 thousends households already electrified in this fiscal year. Similarly, under the Dharti Aba Tribal Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, the plan is to electrify 55,795 ST households in the current financial year.
Power Police Stations in Six Major Cities
A special Energy Police force will be established in Madhya Pradesh. In the first phase, six dedicated Power Police Stations will be opened in six major cities. These stations will support inspection teams during surprise checks, file FIRs under the Electricity Act, and ensure protection of discom property and recovery of dues. The distribution companies have also been directed to physically verify electricity usage in the agriculture sector to ensure transparency and proper subsidy usage.
Prepaid Meters in Government Offices
Installation of prepaid meters in all government offices will begin from August 15, which will help address the issue of unpaid power bills in public offices.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, ACS in CM Office Dr. Rajesh Rajora , Shri Manu Srivastava (Renewable Energy), Shri Manish Rastogi (Finance), Managing Director of MP Urja Vikas Nigam, CMDs of all three discoms, and other senior officials.
