
BAREILLY: UP Police have arrested two more associates of local Bareilly cleric Tauqeer Raza Khan following an encounter in Fatehganj Paschimi area on Wednesday morning.The accused had allegedly snatched a constable’s anti-riot firearm and opened fire at police during the September 26 Bareilly clash following Friday prayers.
“The Special Operations Group (SOG) and CB Ganj police team cordoned off a canal area when the accused opened fire in their bid to escape. In retaliatory action, both sustained bullet injuries in their legs before being overpowered,” police said.The arrested men have been identified as Mohd Idris alias Bora (50) and Iqbal alias Bundan Khan (48), both residents of Shahjahanpur. Police have also recovered the stolen anti-riot gun, two country-made pistols, three live cartridges, two spent cartridges, a bike, and mobile phones from them.SSP Anurag Arya said the crackdown on those who attempted to incite unrest in the city would continue. “There is no question of sparing anyone who tried to set Bareilly on fire,” he said.Police records reveal that Idris faces over 20 cases, while Iqbal has 17 cases against him, including robbery and arms act violations.Bareilly Police on Tuesday arrested a key suspect, Tazim, after the “I love Muhammad” campaign snowballed into violent clashes in the district. According to SP City Manush Pareek, Tazim fired at police officers while they attempted to apprehend him. So far, a total of 72 people have been arrested in connection with the case.“A total of 72 people have been arrested in this case till today. We have information about the involvement of one Tazim. He is known to be a cattle smuggler and has previously been jailed under the Gangster Act. When the police tried to arrest him, he fired at them,” Pareek said.
