HTET exam postponed: The Board of School Education, Haryana (BSEH), has postponed the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) 2026. The examination, which was earlier tentatively scheduled for January 17 and 18, has now been delayed. The change has not been officially announced but has been noticed on the official website. The “important dates” section previously mentioned exams to be conducted on January 17 and 18 and now says they will be informed later. While the board has not released a separate notification announcing the postponement, the removal of the previously mentioned dates clearly indicates a revision in the examination schedule. Candidates have been advised to closely monitor the official website for updated information.The board expects around three lakh candidates to apply for HTET 2026, including many who did not qualify in the previous session. In the last HTET exam, only about 14 per cent of candidates cleared the test, highlighting its competitive nature.
About HTET 2026
The Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is a mandatory qualifying examination for candidates seeking teaching jobs in government schools across Haryana. Candidates who clear the exam receive a certificate recognised by the state government, which is required for teacher recruitment.The examination is conducted for three levels:
- Level 1 (PRT) for Primary Teachers
- Level 2 (TGT) for Trained Graduate Teachers
- Level 3 (PGT) for Post Graduate Teachers
The exam is usually held in two shifts across two days.
HTET 2026: Exam pattern
Each level of the HTET 2026 has 150 questions, with a total of 150 marks as each question carries one mark. Candidates get two hours and thirty minutes to solve the paper. Moreover, there is no negative marking, so your score will not be lowered for incorrect answers.
- Level 1 (PRT): This exam is on Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. This level tests your knowledge of children and your ability to teach at the primary level.
- Level 2 (TGT): Apart from Child Development and Pedagogy and the two language sections, candidates have to answer a subject-specific section (Mathematics and Science / Social Studies) for which they can select either one. This level is designed to assess your teaching skills and subject knowledge for the middle school level.
- Level 3 (PGT): It features a more advanced subject-specific section, which is designed for senior secondary education apart from the Children Development and Pedagogy and Language components. So this level basically resembles the structure of level 2 (TGT) or level 1 (PRT) but with a higher difficulty level in the subject-specific section.
