Deepika Padukone has been rocking the headlines for initiating the 8-hour shift debate in the industry. And now, filmmaker Rohan Sippy, who has helmed ‘Dum Maaro Dum’, which also featured the actress in a special number, has reacted to the topic. In an interview, the director shared that fixed working hours in the film industry are not possible. Here’s what he has to say.
Rohan Sippy addresses the 8-hour shift debate: ‘Not the right profession to pursue if…’
In an interview with PTI, Rohan Sippy shared his thoughts about the 8-hour-long shift debate. The filmmaker said, “It’s not the right profession to pursue if that’s what you’re looking for (8-hour shift).” The director expressed that being in this profession, it is the nature of the job where one has to be around, whether to meet an actor, be on set, or for the night shoots. He said, “There’s a greater supply of people who want to do this job than the demand for it.“
Rohan Sippy feels one needs to accept things
Sippy expressed that one should feel lucky to be in the film industry and getting work. He said, “So, we’re all lucky to be in these things, so you have to accept it and have a family with you that will be understanding enough of that.”He went on to add that if one’s family cannot accept that fact and manage those expectations, it would become an issue. He added, “I’m extremely fortunate that I do have that support and understanding to allow me to do this.”The director was asked about the shift debate while he was promoting his latest show, ‘Search: The Naina Murder Case’, starring Konkona Sensharma in the lead role. The series has arrived on the OTT platform today, October 10, 2025.
