NEW DELHI: The Delhi airport issued an advisory on Monday urging passengers to plan their travel with caution due to sudden weather changes in the city. With light to moderate showers and strong winds disrupting road movement on Sunday, fliers were advised to use the Delhi Metro and stay in touch with airlines for updates.“Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free,” the Delhi airport said in a advisory. “Passengers are advised to consider alternative modes of transport, including the Delhi Metro, to reach the airport and avoid potential delays.”The advisory came a day after parts of Delhi-NCR were lashed by intense rain and high-velocity winds, reaching up to 57 kmph at some locations. While light to moderate rain is expected on Monday, the weather department has forecast scattered rain activity to continue for a week starting Tuesday. However, there is no colour-coded weather warning issued for the upcoming days. From 5.30pm to 8.30pm on Sunday, Safdarjung received 10.1mm of rain, Pragati Maidan 13.6mm, Pusa 10mm and Janakpuri 0.5mm. Rain was accompanied by strong winds – 57 kmph at Pragati Maidan, 55 kmph at Palam and 37 kmph at Mayur Vihar.IMD scientist Krishna Kumar Mishra attributed the showers to a combination of the monsoon trough lying south of Delhi, an active western disturbance and a low-pressure system over northwest Madhya Pradesh.Rain over the past four days helped Delhi wipe out its monsoon deficit. The city has now received 117.8mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 12, against a normal of 126.3mm. South-west Delhi remains the wettest district and is currently categorised under the ‘large excess’ category. North and northwest Delhi continue to reel under ‘large deficit’.Six districts — central, New Delhi, northeast, south, southeast and west — have so far recorded ‘normal’ rainfall.Sunday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 34.8°C, a degree below normal, while the minimum settled at 25.1°C, two notches below normal.
