MEERUT: A 38-year-old man, who worked as a stenographer at the civil court in Amroha, was beaten to death in front of his family and in full public view on National Highway-9 near the city, in a road rage incident on Sunday evening. Mohd Rashid Hussain, travelling with his wife, children and nephew, was intercepted by a group of men who forced his vehicle to stop, pulled him out and beat him for nearly 10 minutes while passers-by looked on.A resident of Amroha, Hussain was on his way to Moradabad with his wife Rukhsar, 35, daughter Mayra, 4, sons Aarish, 8, and Ammad, 2, and nephew Salman, 16. The family had just crossed the Bambugarh-Joya crossing when a motorcycle brushed past their car, causing the riders to fall. After a brief argument, Hussain got out and helped the bikers up. They appeared uninjured, and the family resumed their journey.“We were heading to visit relatives in Moradabad and had waited long for this trip. We were listening to music and enjoying the drive,” said Salman. “A few minutes later, the same men came back with others, overtook us and blocked our car. They dragged my uncle out and began hitting him repeatedly. They kept beating him even as he collapsed on the road.”Salman said around half a dozen bystanders stopped to watch but didn’t intervene. “We shouted and cried for help, but no one came forward. They just stood there. My aunt kept pleading, but the men didn’t stop,” he said. Hussain was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.Police registered an FIR under BNS sections 103 (murder), 191(2) (rioting), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 61(1) (criminal conspiracy) against seven persons — Mohd Kaleem, Mohd Kaseem, Mohd Naseem, Mohd Shaan and three unidentified men — all from Hussainpur village in Didauli area of Amroha.Circle officer Abhishek Yadav said, “This was the fallout of a minor crash that happened nearly 30 minutes earlier. The accused called their associates, followed the car and stopped it in their local area. One of the accused, Mohd Shaan, 23, has been arrested. Raids are underway to trace the others. Further investigation is ongoing.”
