Karisma Kapoor’s children are fighting a legal battle against Priya Sachdev Kapur over their late father Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate. The high-stakes inheritance case has taken a dramatic turn after the children accused Priya of giving them “Cinderella stepmother” treatment, favouring her own child and allegedly trying to restrict their rightful share of their father’s assets.Reportedly, during a heated hearing at the Delhi High Court on Friday, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma’s children, compared Priya to the cruel stepmother from the fairytale Cinderella. He claimed that Priya was acting in a manipulative way while trying to take control of Sunjay Kapur’s vast inheritance.
Lawyer questions Priya Sachdev’s share of assets
As reported by News18, Jethmalani asked the court, “Who is really greedy? She has already got 60% of the assets, around 12% to her own son, and 75% of the trust. She was in such a hurry, she even started writing letters about Benami forms, which are used to decide beneficiaries of companies.”He alleged that Priya’s “glaring hurry” was an attempt to cut down the rightful share of Sunjay Kapur’s children from his previous marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor.
Questions raised over Sunjay Kapur’s alleged will
The advocate also raised doubts about the validity of Sunjay Kapur’s will, which lies at the centre of the dispute. Jethmalani told the court, “It is not possible that Sunjay Kapur would not have consulted an advocate before creating a will and bequeathing such a large estate.”When the court asked whether the will was typed, Jethmalani confirmed it was and pointed out several “loopholes and infirmities” in the document, suggesting the will lacked proper legal preparation.
Lawyer claims process lacked transparency
Jethmalani continued, “This is not a normal case. There’s no reason why the executor wasn’t informed or why a lawyer wasn’t consulted. A genuine will by a well-positioned man in society does not suffer from loopholes and infirmities.” He suggested that the way the will was handled showed clear signs of irregularities and that something might have been altered without proper consultation.
Alleged will changes raise further suspicion
Adding to the courtroom tension, Jethmalani claimed that the will was changed while Sunjay Kapur was on holiday with his son. He also alleged that the person who made those changes became a director in one of the companies just a day after Sunjay’s funeral, raising questions about the timing and intent behind these actions.
Lawyer warns against alleged forgery of will
Jethmalani reminded the court that forging a will is a serious offence punishable by life imprisonment. He said, “This is a case where the entire justice system is being taken for a joke.”
Karisma Kapoor’s children demand rightful inheritance share
The legal battle revolves around Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore inheritance, one of the biggest and most talked-about family disputes in recent years. Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a case in the Delhi High Court seeking what they believe is their fair share of their late father’s personal estate.
Delhi High Court to continue hearing soon
After an intense session, the Delhi High Court adjourned the proceedings. The matter will now resume on October 16, 2025.
