
Booklet Focuses on Jal Ganga Samwardhan Abhiyan
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav released the Water Resources Department’s booklet “Sadanira Jal Sansadhan – Bahti Rahe Jal Ki Dhara” at the Mantralaya on Wednesday. On this occasion, the Water Resources Minister, Shri Tulsiram Silawat, the Panchayat, Rural Development, and Labour Minister, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, and the MSME Minister, Shri Chaitanya Kumar Kashyap, were also present.
The booklet highlights the Jal Ganga Samwardhan Abhiyan undertaken this year for the conservation and promotion of water resources across Madhya Pradesh. CM Dr. Yadav congratulated all stakeholders on the campaign’s remarkable success. He said, “Our rivers, ponds, and water bodies are the foundation of life. This joint effort of the government and society towards their conservation is not only exemplary but will also establish Madhya Pradesh as a leader in water management”.
Water Resources Minister Shri Silawat said that the campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Catch the Rain” initiative and based on the principle “Water of the field should stay in the field, and water of the village should stay in the village”, has given new direction to water conservation efforts in Madhya Pradesh. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, the campaign was conducted from 30 March to 30 June 2025 to transform water conservation into a public movement.
The minister highlighted that the Jal Ganga Samwardhan Abhiyan elevated awareness and community participation in water conservation. The Utilisation of digital mapping, the development of climate-resilient structures, and the integration of financial & technical resources have laid a strong foundation for future water management. The message “Water is the basis of life” reached the masses, ensuring effective maintenance and conservation of water structures. He added that the campaign marked a transformative step in water management and agricultural development in the state through the Completion of small and medium irrigation projects, Large-scale canal cleaning, Renovation of ponds and reservoirs and Initiatives driven by public participation. These efforts have greatly enhanced the efficiency and sustainability of water resources. The Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan is a matter of pride for Madhya Pradesh and serves as an inspiration to the nation.
Key Achievements of the Abhiyan
Under the campaign, Out of 2,444 targeted major water structures across all 55 districts, 2,190 structures were successfully renovated. Works included renovation of ponds and reservoirs, canal cleaning, encroachment removal, and plantation—executed on a war footing. Significant progress was seen in regions like Ujjain, Indore, Chambal-Betwa, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Sagar, and Wainganga basins.Under water structure renovation–Cleaning of ponds, reservoirs, and canals, Pitching, boulder toe construction, embankment reconstruction and Repair of sluice gates and ghats ensured seamless water flow.
These measures improved water storage capacity, promoted groundwater recharge, reduced soil erosion, and ensured long-term sustainability.
Canal cleaning and demarcation of canals as government property, along with installation of kilometre stones, made water management more transparent and organised, reducing encroachments and unauthorised water use.
Iconic works under historical water structures executed are–the renovation of the 300-year-old Mata Ahilya Bawdi, the beautification of Kanadia Talab and Ratantalai Talab and the Bhoomi-Pujan of Tigariya Goga Barrage.
Public participation was witnessed in–Cleaning of Kerwa Dam, Voluntary labour at Jamwar Talab in Vidisha and Dialogues on water conservation with children in Ramnagar. These activities fostered a strong sense of community ownership and responsibility.
