Veteran actor Dharmendra’s life has often mirrored the intensity of his films — filled with love, passion, and drama. The superstar, who came to Mumbai from Punjab as a young married man, saw fame transform not just his career but also the dynamics of his personal life. His wife, Prakash Kaur, had to adapt from a modest life to the complexities of being the spouse of one of India’s most adored actors. Later, she faced the emotional challenge of her husband’s second marriage to Hema Malini — a chapter that has long fascinated fans and film historians alike. Now, decades later, Dharmendra’s youngest son, Bobby Deol, has offered a rare glimpse into his parents’ present life together. In a new interview with ABP Live, Bobby revealed that his parents, Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur, are currently living together at the actor’s picturesque farmhouse in Khandala.“My mum is also there. They’re both at the farm in Khandala right now. Papa and Mummy are together; he just gets a little dramatic. They love being at the farmhouse. They’re also old now, and being at the farmhouse is relaxing for them. The weather is nice, the food is nice. Papa has made a paradise out there,” Bobby shared.
‘Papa is very emotional, he just follows his heart’
Over the years, Dharmendra’s social media posts have often sparked concern among fans, with many interpreting his emotional messages as signs of loneliness. Addressing this, Bobby clarified that his father’s expressive nature sometimes gets misread.“Papa is very emotional. He’s very expressive. He shares what he’s feeling with everyone… Sometimes he goes overboard, and then I ask him why he wrote what he wrote or said what he said, and he tells me that he was just following his heart. Yes, of course we meet him, but we’re busy sometimes and he gets emotional. He doesn’t have any idea how many people could read his posts,” Bobby said with a laugh.
‘My mother is the strongest woman I’ve ever met’
Bobby also opened up about his mother, Prakash Kaur, who has largely stayed away from the limelight despite being the silent pillar of the Deol family.“You don’t hear about my mother much because people don’t usually ask us about her. And because my brother and father are actors, I end up talking more about them. My mother is a housewife, and I am her favourite. We speak every day. In fact, she called me twice just today. She’s the strongest woman I’ve ever met in my life,” he said.He further reflected on her resilience, adding, “She came from a small village, and the way of living was very simple. And then, to adjust to city life as the wife of a superstar… It wasn’t easy. I am what I am because of my wife, and it is the same with my father. It is because of my mother’s support that my father became a big star.”
A love story that stood the test of time
Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur married in 1954, when the actor was just 19. The couple has four children — Sunny, Bobby, Ajeeta, and Vijeta. Years later, Dharmendra met Hema Malini on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawaan (1970), and their chemistry soon blossomed into real love. Despite opposition, they tied the knot in 1980 and went on to have two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol.
