NEW DELHI: Governing BJP and opposition DMK members clashed in Lok Sabha on Friday when the issue of the lighting of a lamp at ‘Deepathoon’ at a hilltop temple close to a dargah near Madurai was raised by DMK MP T R Baalu. As Baalu accused BJP of trying to “ignite” communal tensions in Tamil Nadu, Union minister L Murugan hit back at the state govt for denying devotees “the right to worship” at Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple.DMK members had even stormed the Well of the House as soon as proceedings began for the day and tried to raise the issue, forcing the adjournment of Question Hour for nearly 30 minutes.Raising the issue during Zero Hour later, Baalu claimed the HC judge who had permitted the lighting of the lamp owed allegiance to a particular ideology. His reference to the HC judge’s ideology drew strong criticism from parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, who asserted the DMK neta could not cast aspersions on a member of the judiciary and urged the chair to delete the remarks.
