NEW DELHI: In Bihar’s Danapur Assembly constituency, early trends show a close contest as RJD’s Rit Lal Roy is currently leading with 4,082 votes (+1,350), while BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav trails at 2,732 votes (-1,350).Danapur is witnessing a direct contest between BJP and RJD as the counting of votes in the constituency has started. With polling complete and the fate of candidates sealed in the EVMs, Danapur remains one of the closely watched seats in Patna district. The constituency has a mixed urban–rural voter base and has witnessed frequent shifts in political preference over the past three decades.

The Election Commission reported more than 68 per cent turnout across 122 constituencies that went to polls in the second phase.Danapur has seen alternating political trends over the years. In the 2020 election, the constituency had 3,53,534 electors and 1,85,563 valid votes. Rit Lal Ray of the RJD won with 89,895 votes. BJP’s Asha Devi finished second with 73,971 votes, losing by 15,924.In 2015, Danapur had 3,21,439 electors and 1,66,986 valid votes. Asha Devi of the BJP won with 72,192 votes. Raj Kishor Yadav of the RJD secured 66,983 votes and lost by 5,209.In 2010, the constituency had 2,55,418 electors and 1,25,050 valid votes. Asha Devi won again on a BJP ticket with 59,425 votes. Independent candidate Rit Lal Ray finished second with 41,506 votes, trailing by 17,919.Going further back, in the 1990 election, Danapur had 1,75,844 electors and 1,09,584 valid votes.
