
GUWAHATI: In a moment of academic pride for Assam, Dr. Biswajit Choudhury, Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) of Political Science at Handique Girls’ College, Guwahati, made a significant international academic contribution at the 28th World Congress of the International Political Science Association (IPSA), held in Seoul, South Korea, from July 12 to 16, 2025.Dr. Choudhury participated as a panel chair, paper author, and oral presenter, underscoring his versatile engagement at one of the world’s most prestigious gatherings of political scientists and global policy thinkers. He presented a research paper titled “Globalising Northeast India through Act East Policy: An Overview,” which critically examines the strategic, socio-economic, and diplomatic dimensions of India’s Act East Policy, with a special focus on the Northeast region as a pivotal link between South and Southeast Asia.His participation was made possible through a Travel Grant awarded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India a testament to national efforts in supporting Indian scholars at premier global academic forums.The IPSA World Congress, convened every two years, is globally recognised for fostering dialogue among political scientists, scholars, and practitioners from across continents. Dr. Choudhury’s presentation brought Northeast India into sharper global academic focus, emphasising the region’s evolving role in India’s foreign policy framework and transnational connectivity initiatives.Dr. Choudhury’s representation at the Congress not only enhanced the academic stature of Handique Girls’ College, Guwahati but also showcased Assam’s growing intellectual footprint on the global stage. His scholarly engagement resonates with the larger vision of positioning India’s Northeast as an emerging hub of regional cooperation and policy discourse.
