Actor Anjali Sivaraman recently impressed the audiences with her performance in the recently released ‘Bad Girl,’ a Tamil coming-of-age drama. Now the actress has taken a firm stand against online hate.For the unversed, Anjali was subjected to a casteist and racist comment questioning her identity and her casting in the film. Choosing not to stay silent, Anjali addressed the issue head-on through her Instagram stories.Anjali penned a straight reply to trollers, “You know, for anyone who’s confused, I am Tamilian. My name is Anjali Sivaraman. If you do a simple Google search, you’ll realize I am Tamilian. My mother is Chitra Iyer, who is Tamilian. My father is Vinod Sivaraman, who is also Tamilian. My entire family is Tamilian. Yeah, I don’t really speak Tamil, but I understand it perfectly.”

Anjali asks trollers to research before making judgments
Anjali explained that although she doesn’t frequently speak Tamil, her identity remains deeply rooted in her Tamil background. She elaborated on her upbringing, saying, “I grew up in an English-speaking household. My father was in the Air Force, so we moved around a lot, and English was just the common language that we grew up speaking.” She then issued a sharp message to her critic: “Before you go around making your baseless judgements on a person and calling them some pretty horrific names, you really should do your research because you look so stupid.”
Standing up against online hate
Earlier, Anjali had shared a note expressing that while she typically avoids calling out individuals online, this time she felt compelled to speak up. She also shared a screenshot of the hateful message she received. The text contained slurs about her skin tone, ethnicity, and connection to the film.Meanwhile, ‘Bad Girl’ is directed by Varsha Bharath, and it explores the emotional journey of a young woman navigating love, identity, and societal expectations. The film features Anjali Sivaraman alongside Shanthipriya and Hridhu Haroon and received good reviews.
