Air India on Tuesday unveiled the interiors of its first custom-built Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a key milestone in the airline’s ongoing fleet modernisation and standardisation drive under the Tata Group. The wide-body aircraft, featuring newly designed cabins, will be deployed on the Mumbai–Frankfurt route starting February 1. This is the first Dreamliner to join Air India’s fleet since the airline was taken over by the Tata Group in January 2022.

According to the airline, the aircraft is a “line-fit” or factory-finished Dreamliner, meaning the new cabin interiors were installed during manufacturing rather than retrofitted later. The refreshed interiors are part of Air India’s broader effort to offer a more consistent onboard experience across its long-haul fleet.Air India currently operates five flights a week between Mumbai and Frankfurt. With the induction of the custom-made 787-9 on this route, the airline aims to improve passenger comfort on one of its key European sectors.

Earlier this month, in a statement, Air India also highlighted its codeshare partnership with Lufthansa, which enables passengers flying into Frankfurt to access seamless onward connections to 29 destinations across Europe, as well as select points in North and South America.
