A new report suggests that both Swift and her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, declined attempts by Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign to bring them into the spotlight.

According to excerpts from ABC political journalist Jonathan Karl’s upcoming book Retribution, Harris’ advisers made “increasingly desperate” efforts to boost momentum with younger voters and saw the Kelce brothers as ideal messengers. A now-released passage explains that “the Kelce brothers, however, rejected the offer,” after being invited to feature Harris on their chart-topping New Heights podcast. Their producer reportedly made the show’s priorities clear: sports over political campaigning.The Harris team likely thought they had a home-run moment when Swift unexpectedly endorsed the then–vice president following a televised debate with Donald Trump. Karl writes the nod “surprised the vice president’s campaign team,” especially given Swift’s ability to mobilize millions of young voters.The campaign did try to capitalize in subtle ways. As Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff hit the stage at a Philadelphia watch party, they walked out to Swift’s song “The Man,” sending the crowd into cheers. But Swift never showed up in person, and hopes for a Pennsylvania rally with its hometown pop icon fizzled. Insiders say the campaign “never received an answer” from Swift’s representatives despite repeated outreach.
