
Bitter gourd, also known as karela in India, is commonly used in traditional medicine and is well known for its anti-diabetic properties. A study found that the hypoglycemic effects of bitter gourd may be beneficial in Diabetes patients to reduce the blood glucose level.
Also, its active compounds, including charantin and polypeptide-p, are believed to mimic insulin and enhance glucose uptake.
Preparation:
Take one medium sized bitter gourd and cut it into small pieces after washing it thoroughly. Blend with ½ cup of water until smooth, add salt or lemon if required, to enhance taste. Strain the juice, and drink daily on an empty stomach.
