Varun Dhawan has been one of the most loved new-age actors in the business but post Kalank, he has struggled at the ticket window. He even attempted the action genre with titles like Baby John and Citadel: Honey Bunny didn’t get the acceptance as expected. In a fresh bid he returned to the genre he’s most loved in, the ‘rom-coms’ with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar with Shashank Khaitan , Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf. But the film has been struggling to match the expectations one had from a Varun-Shashank combination after having delivered hits like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Sunny Sanskari earned just Rs 41.10 crore from its extended first week where it narrowly went past the lifetime collection of Varun’s last film and his lowest grosser Baby John. On its 2nd Friday the collected Rs 2 crore as per Sacnilk, thus taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 43.10 crore and with that it is inching towards the lifetime collection of his second lowest grosser October. October was directed by Shoojit Sircar and had earned Rs 45.6 crore from its theatrical business. The over Rs 45 crore numbers looks small in comparison but October was a medium budget film and it had made profit for the makers. With a Rs 2 crore collection on Friday, Sunny Sanskari is expected to mint another at least Rs 5 crore over Saturday and Sunday to reach the Rs 50 crore mark. It’s only competition is Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 which is running to cross Rs 400 crore mark this weekend. Varun will now be seen in Border 2 with Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, followed by Hai Jawani To Ishy Hona Hai with his dad David Dahwan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. He also has No Entry 2 with Arjun Kapoor and one more male lead.
