
GUWAHATI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police on Friday arrested two personal security officers (PSOs) of Zubeen Garg in connection with the ongoing investigation into the singer’s death. The arrests were made on Friday following three days of questioning.The PSOs were presented before a court, which has remanded them in five-day custody with the SIT.During the investigation, a financial transaction of approximately Rs 1 crore was discovered in the bank accounts of the PSOs, prompting further questioning by the SIT. The two police personnel had been assigned to Zubeen Garg for nearly a decade after he received a death threat from the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (Ulfa-I).With this, the total number of individuals arrested in connection with the case has increased to seven. Previously, the SIT had arrested Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival in Singapore, and Zubeen’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, on Oct 1. Zubeen’s drummer, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer, Amritprabha Mahanta, were arrested on Oct 2, followed by the arrest of DSP Sandipon Garg, Zubeen’s cousin, last Wednesday.Zubeen’s wife: Those held not fully truthful to probe agenciesZubeen passed away on Sept 19 in Singapore while swimming in the sea, just a day before he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival. His wife, Garima, expressed her continued patience for the truth to emerge, stating that she does not believe those arrested, including Zubeen’s cousin, have been fully truthful with the authorities.Gaurav Gogoi, Congress’s state president and deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, criticized the investigation process on Friday, urging the chief minister to ensure a comprehensive and foolproof case is built to secure convictions in court. “It is the family of Zubeen Garg who will say if justice has been provided,” he added.The judge will not listen to anyone. The judge in the court will see the evidence, procedure, and the guidelines,” he added. He said, “Our demand is clear that we want justice. We want to keep Zubeen’s ideology alive. We want to heal the wounds the people have suffered.”
