
Ayurveda recognises that fasting affects people differently depending on their dosha.
Kapha types, who tend toward heaviness and sluggishness, respond best. Occasional fasting clears stagnation, lightens the body, and restores alertness.
Pitta types, marked by sharp digestion and strong appetite, may suffer if meals are skipped entirely. Light fruits, chaas, or moong dal soup keep balance without stoking irritability.
Vata types, light and mobile by nature, are most vulnerable. Prolonged fasting can worsen anxiety or dryness. For them, warm khichdi or lightly spiced vegetables are safer than strict abstinence.
This variation is central: a practice that energises one constitution can deplete another.
