Digestive problems can really drain you of your energy, mood, and even your daily routine. The feeling of fullness even after a small meal can leave you sluggish throughout the day. The same is true for constipation. But there is a fix for most of your digestive problems?

Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a leading California-based gastroenterologist trained at Harvard and Stanford, explains about one seed that can fix most gut issues. What is the miracle seed? Let’s take a look.
A seed that can fix digestive problems

“If you’re dealing with bloating, irregular bowel movements, or blood sugar swings, there’s one tiny seed that could change everything,” Dr. Sethi revealed. The seed in question is – Chia seeds. The tiny black or white seeds that come from the Salvia hispanica L., and native to Central America, have a high nutritional profile. Chia seeds contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, dietary fiber, proteins, vitamins, and some minerals. They are also an excellent source of polyphenols and antioxidants, such as caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid, myricetin, and quercetin, among others.
What’s so special about chia seeds?

Chia seeds have become a staple among health-conscious individuals. From fitness fans enjoying chia pudding to people sipping chia seed water for weight management, these tiny seeds pack a big punch. So how do chia seeds benefit your gut? “When you soak chia seeds, they form a gel that slows down sugar absorption and feeds your good gut bacteria. This keeps you regular and helps balance your digestive system,” the gut doctor said in a newsletter. “When you eat them soaked, the gel slows down how fast sugar enters your bloodstream. This prevents energy crashes and reduces cravings for junk food. Plus, they feed the beneficial bacteria in your gut, which improves your mood. Remember, 90% of serotonin is made in your gut,” he added.
How to consume chia seeds?

While chia seeds are beneficial for your gut, it is really important how you consume them. “Most people make one big mistake – they eat chia seeds dry. Your body can’t absorb much that way, and it can actually cause digestive issues,” Dr. Sethi cautioned. So, how to soak them right? The doctor suggests sticking to the following steps.
- Soak 1-2 tablespoons for 15-20 minutes
- Mix them in almond milk or yogurt
- Let them turn into a pudding-like texture
- Never eat them dry
You can also soak them overnight or 30 minutes before consuming for better consistency and texture. “Try this tonight with some almond milk. Your gut will feel the difference by morning. You can also mix chia seeds with berries and yogurt for a perfect gut-healing breakfast that keeps you full for hours!” the doctor said.
