
In 1997 producer-director JP Dutta brought the Battle of Longewal of 1971 on the big screen with Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Jackie Shroff and in 2025 his daughter Nidhi Dutta along with Anurag Singh are not taking the story ahead to chronicle the happenings that led to liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. Border 2 brings to light the unknown heroes of the Bangladesh liberation war that led to creation of a new country in the world. While Sunny Doel will be once again playing Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, various reports have popped up sharing more details about other real life heroes who played vital roles in India’s decisive victory.
Diljit Dosanjh plays the role of Flying officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon who went on to win a Param Vir Chakra award for his supreme sacrifice in the war. Sekhon was a Gnat pilot stationed at Srinagar during the 1971 war, on 14 December, when six Pakistani Sabre jets attacked Srinagar airfield, he took off amidst heavy bombing and immediately engaged the enemy. He was able to successfully hit one Sabre jet of the enemy and badly damage the second one, then the remaining four jets joined the battle. Despite being alone and outnumbered Sekhon fought valiantly and held his ground ultimately his Gnat was shot down and he was killed in action. Border 2 is up for release during the Republic day weekend in 2026 and it also features Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Medha Rana and many more. The film is currently in the post production stage and it is going to feature the very famous ‘ Sandese Aate Hai’ song sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod which was featured in the first part and till date evokes the same feeling across the country.
