
HYDERABAD: Film Nagar police registered a case against Telugu film actress Dimple Hayathi and her husband, David, for allegedly subjecting their 22-year-old domestic help to harassment and damaging her mobile phone at their apartment in Shaikpet.The complainant, from Odisha, arrived in Hyderabad on September 22 seeking employment as a domestic help through manpower consultancy Sri Sai Goodwill Service. On the same day, she was employed at Dimple’s flat in Vamsiram’s Westwood Apartments, Sheikpet.According to the complainant, she was repeatedly abused and denied food during the week she worked at the couple’s residence in Vamsiram’s Westwood Apartments. In a statement recorded at Film Nagar police station on Monday night, the victim alleged that Dimple and David “humiliated me saying my life is not even equal to their shoes,” and routinely used abusive language while assigning chores.Matters allegedly escalated around 7.30 am on Monday when the couple’s pet dog began barking. According to the first information report, the duo hurled threats at the domestic help and her family, prompting her to turn on her mobile phone camera to record the abusive behaviour. “David snatched the device, smashed it on the floor breaking it into pieces. He tried to assault me but I escaped from the flat and in that process my clothes were torn,” the victim alleged in her complaint.Based on her complaint, Film Nagar police registered a case under sections 74 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage modesty), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 324(2) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the couple on Monday night.“We have recorded the statement of the victim. Notices will be served to the accused to appear for questioning,” said a Film Nagar police official.
