On 2nd October, Indian cinema is going to see a very diverse clash at the cinemas. On one side it is going to be Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1- sequel to his 2022 blockbuster film Kantara and on the other side is hit pair of Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra. While one is a sequel of a regional film which went on to become a Pan-India hit and another brings back the hit actor-director pair who has given hits like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. For the North India circuit both the films were in a lock jam as distributors of the both the films were asking for maximum shows for themselves leaving barely anything for the other film leaving all exhibitors in a lurch. In the quandary on the basis of its strong showcasing in South of India, Kantara sequel has zoomed ahead with nearly Rs 20 crore advance booking with less than 24 hours to go for the shows to roll. But for Sunny Sanskari for which booking has opened for more than 3600 shows, it has sold only 30,000 tickets collecting just Rs 1.19 crore and by taking into account the block booking the total collection jumps to Rs 2.33 crore. The maximum collection for the film With the ongoing trend the film is expected to take a day 1 opening of about Rs 10 to Rs 12 crore. The film is extremely important for Varun Dhawan as his last release Baby John and his OTT debut Citadel: Honey Bunny struggled to connect with the audience. And his last theatrical release was also in 2022 in Bhediya, the film received moderate success at the box office but it’s makers Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan has a lot of hope in it which led them to feature Varun as cameos in Stree 2 and upcoming Thamma and even Bhediya 2 is also in the pipeline.
