It has been over a month since the release of Dulquer Salmaan, Domini Arun, Naslen and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra . And in this time period the film has gone to set new benchmarks from becoming the highest grossing Malayalam film to highest grossing female led film from South India to becoming the third biggest female led film of Indian Cinema by beating Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiwadi. While Dulquer shared that the film is in no rush to have it’s OTT release which simply means that the film is going to be in the theaters for a long period of time. The film is having its 35th day in theaters today and is expected to a big run over the next few days to 2nd October holiday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dusshera which will be followed by the weekend. And the more time it spends in the theater, it will set new records with it’s collection. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 148.85 crore. Of the total collection the maximum revenue for the film has come from its Malayalam version and if one narrows it down it’s collection it’s maximum ticket sales has come from the state of Kerala- it’s home ground.
But despite have beaten films like Manjummerl Boys and Thudarum to claim the number 1 spot in the list of highest grossing Malayalam film, it is still not the highest grosser in Kerala. That honour that been held by Mohanlal’s Thudarum who from it’s entire Rs 122 crore collection had minted Rs 118.9 crore from Kerala. At present Lokah’s total collection stands at Rs 148.85 crore, but of that Lokah has collected about Rs 114 crore from the state of Kerala. It now needs less than Rs 5 crore to break Mohanlal’s record and claim the top spot on the leadership board. The success of Lokah has been so huge that as the film completed a month at the cinemas the makers announced its second part which will be led by Tovino Thomas and directed by Dominic Arun with a cameo by Dulquer himself.
