The Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) will commence its online counselling for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD admissions from September 2, 2025, nearly two months after the National Testing Agency (NTA) released CUET UG results on July 4, suggested by media reports. Registrations will remain open for approximately a week, followed by the rank list in the third week of September. The first round of seat allotment and college reporting is scheduled between September 15 and 17.The counselling process, originally planned for July 31, was delayed due to a lag in receiving candidate data from the NTA and requests from several State Agricultural Universities and Deemed Universities for an extension. ICAR counselling fills 20% of seats in State Agricultural Universities, 100% in central and deemed agricultural universities, and 20% in central universities, including Banaras Hindu University and Visva-Bharati. Key programmes include BSc Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, and BTech courses in Agricultural Engineering and Dairy Technology. Students face uncertainty amid admission delaysThe delay has created widespread uncertainty among thousands of aspirants, many of whom have sought admission in private institutions and state universities where classes have already started. Students across states including Odisha, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal have temporarily enrolled in alternate programmes to avoid losing an academic year. The timing gap between CUET results and ICAR counselling has left students behind in crucial coursework compared to peers in other universities, highlighting the pressures caused by administrative delays.Efforts are reportedly underway to streamline the counselling process in future sessions to ensure that admissions are completed within six weeks of CUET results, allowing classes to begin on schedule.
