The 2026 Oscar nominations have officially been announced! This year, there have been a total of 35 nominations, with many people and films making history by achieving several firsts. This includes the Michael B Jordan-led film ‘Sinners’ leading the numbers with a whopping 16 nominations, to Timothee Chalamet becoming the youngest actor to receive 3 acting nominations at the Academy Awards. As we all await the day of the awards, here is a list of all of the nominated films and where to watch them to keep you occupied.
‘Sinners’
The vampire film is leading the nominations this year with 16 nominations. These range from Ryan Coogler receiving the Best Director nomination to the film being nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo have also been nominated for their roles. The film follows two brothers who return home to open a bar specifically for black people. ‘One Battle After Another’
Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio’s much-awaited collaboration also did pretty well this award season. It scored the second-highest number of nominations with 13 categories. Coogler and Anderson will be aiming for the Best Director title. Not only that, Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor have all received separate nominations for their roles in the film. ‘One Battle After Another’ is about a former revolutionary named Bob, who stays underground with his daughter. As the past comes to haunt him and his kid’s life is put in danger, he must go on a dangerous journey to rescue her. The film is available for streaming on HBO Max.
‘Marty Supreme’
The film follows the story of Marty Mauser, a show salesman who lies, cheats, and schemes his way into funding his dream of playing at the table tennis world championship. Chalamet’s film received 9 nominations this year. These nominations include Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography. The film is currently in theatres; however, as per predictions, it may be available for renting by February.
‘Sentimental Value’
Receiving 9 nominations, ‘Sentimental Value’ is another great film to watch out for this year. Actors Renate Reinsve, Elle Fanning, Stellan Skarsgård, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas all scored solo nominations for their roles in the film. The story of this film follows the life of sisters Nora and Agnes and their complicated and complex relationship with their father, Gustav. When he wishes to make a comeback in the film industry and hires a rising Hollywood star, the family dynamics at home get majorly affected. ‘Sentimental Value’ is available on Prime Video.
‘Frankenstein’
Guillermo del Toro and Jacob Elordi’s leading film ‘Frankenstein’ managed to bag 9 nominations this time around. This retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic tale garnered a lot of praise as it was released last year, and has made a pivotal jump this award season. The film is available for viewing on Netflix.
‘Hamnet’
Chloé Zhao’s directorial work received 8 nominations with ‘Hamnet’, a tale about Agnes and Williams Shakespeare as they deal with the loss of one of their sons due to the plague in the 16th century. Jessie Buckley also managed to bag the award for Best Actress with her work in the film. It is expected to be released on Peacock in February.
‘F1’
Starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, ‘F1’ bagged 4 nominations with Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects. The story is about veteran F1 racer Sonny Hayes, who leaves the high-stakes world behind after a major mishap. Years later, however, he gets his chance at redemption as he is asked to train a struggling F1 racing team and their hot-tempered rider. It is available for streaming on Apple TV.
‘Bugonia’
Emma Stone managed to garner a lot of praise for her portrayal of a successful businesswoman/alien in this feature film. It landed 4 nominations this award season, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. The plot follows two end-of-the-world theorists who believe that the CEO of a pharmaceutical company is an alien who has been sent here to destroy Earth. It is available for streaming on Peacock.
‘The Secret Agent’
‘The Secret Agent’ is a Portuguese-language period film that follows Marcelo’s story through the turmoil of 1977 Brazil and a period of dictatorship rule. He is on the run as he becomes the mercenaries’ target. The film bagged 4 nominations, which include Best Picture, Best Actor (Wagner Moura), Best Casting, and Best International Feature (Brazil). It is currently not available for streaming as it is running in theatres.
‘Train Dreams’
Receiving 4 nominations in Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Song, ‘Train Dreams’ follows Robert Grainier, a Pacific Northwest railworker, who deals with grief and loneliness after his wife and daughter are killed in a housefire. It is available for streaming on Netflix.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is another film that has managed to amass a lot of praise at the time of its release. The third installation of the ‘Avatar’ franchise scored two nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Design. The film follows Jake and Neytiri as they deal with the death of their child, and even encounter a dangerous Na’Vi tribe high up in the ashen volcanoes. It is currently streaming in theatres; however is expected to release on Disney+ on February 26.
‘Sirât’
This Spanish and French thriller film was a big hit at the award season this year and garnered a lot of critical acclaim. The film follows the story of a father and son, who stray far away from home in search of his daughter and his sister, who went missing 6 months ago at a rave party. The film scored two nominations at the Oscars: Best Sound and Best International Feature (Spain). The film is available on Apple TV.
‘Blue Moon’
Set in the time when ‘Oklahoma!’ was one of the most popular plays, the story follows Lorenz Hart’s struggles with mental health issues and alcohol abuse. The film scored 2 nominations, which include Best Original Screenplay and Ethan Hawke’s entry as Best Actor. The film is on Prime Video for renting or buying.
‘KPop Demon Hunters’
‘KPop Demon Hunters’ was one of the highest-rated animated films of 2025 and managed to garner a major fan following across the globe after its release. It scored Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for ‘Golden’ by EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick. The story follows three K-pop stars, who by day perform and interact with fans, and by night turn into a demon-hunting gang. The film has been released on Netflix.
‘It Was Just an Accident’
‘It Was Just an Accident’ is a Persian-language film directed by Jafar Panahi and filmed in Iran. It follows the story of a mechanic who was once trapped in an Iranian prison. Years later, he comes across the man who was his biggest tormentor in prison; however, doubt starts to creep in when the man denies any knowledge of meeting the mechanic. The film scored Best International Feature (France) and Best Original Screenplay, and is available on Prime Video.
‘Weapons’
The biggest horror feature of 2025, ‘Weapons’ scored Amy Madigan her nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The film follows the story of an American teacher who moves to a small town. One night, all the children in her class got up in the middle of the night, ran out on the streets, and vanished into thin air, leaving only one student behind. The horror classic is available on HBO Max.
‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’
Rose Byrne managed to land her Oscar nomination for Best Actress with ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.’ The film is about Linda, who is left dealing with the mysterious illness that is affecting her child. Her husband is absent, there is a missing person involved in the story, and she has a complex and complicated relationship with her therapist. There are a lot of things that Linda has to deal with. The film is available for streaming, buying or renting on Prime Video.
‘The Smashing Machine’
Dwayne Johnson was almost unrecognisable in this biopic feature film that also stars Emily Blunt as his love interest. For the same reason, it managed to land its only Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The film’s plot is based on the rise and fall of the iconic mixed martial arts & UFC fighter Mark Kerr. The film is available for viewers on Prime Video.
‘The Ugly Stepsister’
This film takes a unique turn and is a retelling of the classic story of Cinderella. It is told from the point of view of her stepsister, who is hell-bent on landing the Prince and his throne. The film scored one nomination at the Oscars for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The film is available for streaming on Hulu.
‘Kokuho’
‘Kokuho’ is a Japanese-language film that fared well this awards season. The plot of the film is based on the story of Kabuki theatres and has been adapted from the works of author Shuichi Yoshida. It focuses on Kikuo, who, after the death of his family, is taken in by a Kabuki theatre performer. It has scored a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and is currently running in theatres.
‘The Lost Bus’
This thriller film is based on the real-life incidents of the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California, and how a teacher and a bus driver managed to save 22 children from the raging fire with no other help in sight. The film is available for Apple TV and has scored a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars.
‘Zootopia 2’
Another much-awaited animated release, ‘Zootopia 2’, starts with rabbit cop Judy Hobbs and her best friend, the cunning fox Nick. As they pair up for another case that will bring them to the adventure of a lifetime, while exploring new worlds that were never addressed in the first film. The film has been nominated for Best Animated Feature, and is currently finishing its run in theatres.
‘Jurassic World Rebirth’
Starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ is a fresh take on the classic dinosaur revival story. It follows a crew that goes to the forbidden island to collect a life-saving DNA strand. As they arrive, they start uncovering the real truth behind why the operation was abandoned. The film scored a nomination for Best Visual Effects and is available on Peacock for viewing.
‘Song Sung Blue’
‘Song Sung Blue’ is based on the real-life story of two musicians who loved their career with a burning passion and started a Neil Diamond tribute band. Kate Hudson has managed to land her Oscar nomination for this year as Best Actress. The film is currently available for streaming on Apple TV.
‘Elio’
The beloved animated film follows the story of a boy who is obsessed with anything cosmic and ends up coming across a whole new alien species. He embarks on a journey to help them survive while also discovering things about his life. The film has a nomination for Best Animated Feature and is also available for streaming on Disney+.
‘The Alabama Solution’
‘The Alabama Solution’ is set against the backdrop of one of the worst and deadliest prisons in the entire world. This story focuses on how the prisoner survived the less-than-optimal situations and helped with a cover-up that may ruin their lives. The film has scored a nomination for Best Documentary Feature and is available for streaming on HBO Max.
‘The Perfect Neighbor’
This is an American documentary feature film directed by Geeta Gandbhir. It is based on the real-life incident of June 2, 2023, in Ocala, Florida, when Susan Louise Lorincz fatally shot her Black neighbour, Ajinke Owens. It has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature and is available for streaming on Netflix.
‘Arco’
This is a French-language feature film that has been nominated for Best Animated Feature. It is set on the story of a boy who travels back in time accidentally, however, discovers a world affected by disease and peril. It is available for streaming on Apple TV.
‘Diane Warren: Relentless’
‘Diane Warren: Relentless’ is a musical documentary based on the story of a woman who influenced the music scene of an entire generation. Diane Warren, who has written songs for Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, and many others, is explored in an uncut way in this film. It has been nominated for Best Original Song and is available on Prime Video.
‘Little Amélie’
Nominated for Best Animated Feature, this film follows the story of Amélie, who takes a bite out of a miracle chocolate. This leaves her open to all of the wonders of the world. It is available for streaming on Prime Video.
‘Come See Me in the Good Light’
‘Come See Me in the Good Light’ is about American spoken-word poet and activist Andrea Gibson, and follows her in the final years of her life as she deals with love, loss, and grief. It has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature and is available on Apple TV.
‘Finally, Mr. Nobody Against Putin’
This documentary film is based on the story of a defiant primary school teacher who challenged the norms and Russia’s wartime student indoctrination program. It has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature and is available on Apple TV for streaming.The Academy Awards 2026 Cutting Through Rocksare all set to air on March 15.
