Private unaided schools across Delhi will announce the first nursery admission list for the 2026–27 academic session today, with 1.25 lakh children listed, including those on waiting lists.Officials said 1,741 private schools will release the list simultaneously, marking the first major step in the annual admission process overseen by the Directorate of Education officially.Admission structure and age criteriaUnder the revised admission structure issued by the DoE, the foundational stage covers Nursery and KG, followed by Class 1. For the 2026–27 session, a child must be at least three years old for Nursery, four years for KG and five years for Class 1 as on March 31, 2026. Schools may grant an age relaxation of up to one month at the discretion of the head of school.Automatic progression and eligibilityThe DoE has clarified that children admitted to Nursery in the 2025–26 session will move automatically to KG in 2026–27, while those in KG will progress to Class 1. As a result, Nursery admissions for 2026–27 apply only to children who have completed three years but not four years by March 31, 2026.Admission schedule and points systemAccording to the admission schedule, schools uploaded their criteria and points for open seats, excluding EWS, DG and CWSN categories, by November 28. The last date for submitting application forms was December 27. Schools uploaded applicant details on January 9 and published the marks allotted under the points system by January 16.Schools adopted varied criteria, including neighbourhood distance, sibling preference and alumni links. The first admission list and waiting list will be released today, followed by a second list on February 9. Parents may seek clarification on point allocation from January 24 to February 3, and the admission process will conclude on March 19.
