Tata Motors recently launched the facelifted Punch with prices starting at Rs 5.60 lakh, ex-showroom. The compact SUV has now been evaluated by the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), where it secured a full five-star safety rating. The results are applicable to select petrol and CNG variants. Here’s a closer look at how the Punch performed in the crash tests.

In the Adult Occupant Protection assessment, the Tata Punch scored 30.58 out of a maximum 32 points. The car offered strong protection in both frontal and side impact scenarios. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Punch scored 14.71 out of 16 points, with good protection recorded for the head, neck and upper legs. The driver’s chest and lower leg protection was rated as adequate, while the front passenger’s chest protection was marked as good.
As for the side, the Punch secured 15.87 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test, offering good protection to the head and lower body, with adequate chest protection. The compact SUV scored 45 out of 49 points in the Child Occupant Protection category. Dynamic tests carried out using child restraint systems resulted in a full 24 out of 24 points, while the CRS installation assessment also received a perfect 12 out of 12. The remaining score came from the vehicle assessment section, where the Punch scored 9 out of 13 points.
