NEW DELHI: The Indian Army is moving forward as a future-ready force, with a strong emphasis on indigenous equipment, which has now become a “strategic necessity”, Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Thursday.Speaking to reporters in Jaipur after the Army Day parade, General Dwivedi said the Army is progressing with well-trained soldiers, modern equipment and multi-domain operational capabilities, adding that technology is being used to make soldiers more capable.
He noted that there has been a clear shift in the Army’s thinking over the last few years.Referring to Operation Sindoor, the Army chief said it had established a “new normal” by demonstrating the Army’s ability to respond with speed, coordination and precision. “The operation reflected a mature and confident force, capable of safeguarding national interests through measured, firm and responsible action,” he said, as per news agency PTI.General Dwivedi said the Army is not only addressing current challenges but also preparing for future wars by creating new structures equipped and trained according to future needs. He highlighted the raising of new units such as the Bhairav Battalion and the Shakti Baan Regiment, calling them examples of an agile, responsive and mission-oriented force aligned with future challenges. The Army chief underlined the importance of indigenisation, saying the display of ‘Made in India’ equipment during the parade reflected the foundation of the Army’s transformation. “The Indian Army needs equipment in the future that is designed and developed in India. Indigenisation is not just a goal; today, it has become a strategic necessity,” he said. The 78th Army Day parade was held in Jaipur for the first time outside a cantonment area. The parade showcased the Army’s modern military capabilities, including the BrahMos missile, Bhishma Tank (T-90), indigenous Arjun Tank, artillery systems and advanced missile platforms. Troops from newly formed and traditional units, along with contingents from several states, participated in the event.General Dwivedi also stressed the importance of research and development, saying equipment and supplies must be manufactured and repaired within the country to sustain a long war, according to PTI.
