BHOPAL/JABALPUR: A Times of India report on a fan’s harrowing suicide attempts moved legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu to act, turning a disturbing news story into a moment of compassion and concern.Shaken after reading about the incident, Sanu personally reached out to find out how the man was doing and even spoke to the psychiatrist quoted in the report. “Is he better now and where is he?” the singer asked TOI , expressing a desire to speak directly to the fan or his family. When informed that the man was shifted from Jabalpur to Patna and was undergoing treatment at a hospital there, Sanu’s manager, Dilip Dey, sought the contact details of the family.Sanu later spoke to the fan’s father over the phone, sharing his anguish and offering words of support. “I was really sad after coming to know about it. He is a father of children and should not take such steps. I will pray for his recovery,” the singer said, urging the family to stay strong. Dey also asked to be kept informed about the man’s condition.Consultant psychiatrist Dr Satyakant Trivedi—who was first contacted by Sanu and his team—said the singer wanted to understand whether direct contact with the injured fan or his family would be helpful. “He enquired about the well-being and asked if speaking to the family may aid recovery. I told him he could definitely reach out,” Trivedi said.TOI had reported on Jan 12 that the 30-year-old man, a native of Chhapra in Bihar working in Nagpur, attempted suicide twice within hours after developing delusional fears linked to his obsession with the singer. He first slit his wrist and throat inside a toilet at Jabalpur railway station and later jumped from the 1st floor of a govt hospital while being taken for surgery. Doctors said he survived both attempts and remains stable.
