NEW DELHI: Ayush Badoni was handed his maiden ODI call-up on Monday after being named as a replacement for Washington Sundar, who was ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing three-match series against New Zealand due to a strain in his left lower rib area.Badoni finished his training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on Monday ahead of Delhi’s upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture when he received the news.
The youngster immediately left the state camp to join the Indian squad in Rajkot ahead of the second ODI scheduled for Wednesday.India currently lead the three-match series 1-0 after registering a win in the opening ODI in Vadodara on Sunday. The teams will next lock horns at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, before the series concludes at Indore’s Holkar Stadium on January 18.Following Badoni’s maiden India call-up, a video of him singing at the team’s behest has gone viral on social media. In List A cricket, he has featured in 27 matches, scoring runs at an average of 36.47.The 24-year-old has also displayed leadership qualities at the domestic level, having previously captained Delhi and serving as Rishabh Pant’s deputy during the team’s ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign.Badoni’s call-up, however, means he will miss Delhi’s crucial Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal clash against Vidarbha, scheduled to be played on Tuesday.
